THOSE WERE THE DAYS... RUTCOR 1983-1987
RUTCOR turned 25 year old in 2008. I was fortunate enough to be among
the very first students
to attend the brand new Interdisciplinary Program in Operations
Research, from 1983 to 1987, under
the guidance of Peter Hammer. In this presentation, I would like to
share with the audience some memories of those exciting times.
MODELS OF VOTING POWER IN CORPORATE NETWORKS
Abstract: In this talk, we propose to rely on power indices to measure
the amount of control held by
individual shareholders in corporate networks. The value of the indices
is determined by a complex voting game
viewed as the composition of interlocked weighted majority games; the
compound game reflects the structure of shareholdings.
We describe an algorithmic approach which allows to deal with the
complexity of computing power indices in
real-world financial networks, and we identify some of the research
questions which arise in connection with this approach.
