Title: Molecular signatures of breast cancer prognosis.
Time: 1:30 - 2:30 PM
Location: RUTCOR Building - Room 139, Rutgers University, Busch Campus, Piscataway, NJ
Abstracts:
We develop a robust technique to analyze microarray gene
expression data which uses a combination of principal component
analysis and consensus ensemble k-clustering. We apply our method to a
public microarray breast cancer dataset from Ma et al. (2003) which
has expression levels of genes in normal samples as well as in three
pathological stages of disease, namely, atypical ductal hyperplasia
(ADH), ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS) and invasive ductal carcinoma
(IDC). Our method averages over clustering techniques and data
perturbation to find stable, robust clusters and gene markers. A major
result of this analysis is that different sets of patients seem to
progress to the same final phenotype along different functional
pathways. On an external breast cancer set from Wang et al (2005) we
validate these findings and in addition we identify novel immune
support signatures for breast cancer prognosis.
